Hasbro Captain America The Winter Soldier 4″ Figures Released!

I went out this morning to pick up this week’s comic books and search for the Amazing Spider-Man 2 & Captain America Marvel Legends 2014 figures, and for a nice change my search wasn’t totally in vain. I stumbled across a full case of the Captain America: The Winter Soldier Marvel Legends figures on the pegs (and yes, I bought all a full set to review this month), as well as the full assortment of Hasbro Super Soldier Gear Captain America: The Winter Soldier 3 3/4″ figures. And hey, these Marvel Universe-scale Winter Soldier figures aren’t all bad…

Hasbro Captain America The Winter Soldier 4" Figures Released

I’d been so obsessed with hunting down the 2014 Marvel Legends Captain America action figures lately that I totally forgot about the 3 3/4″ Captain America Super-Soldier Gear figures Hasbro was releasing this winter. Luckily, they were sitting right next to the 6″ Captain America Legends figures at Toys R Us today, so I had the opportunity to check out the entire wave in-detail and snap some photos of each figure in the first (and perhaps only) wave.

The big winner in this series is, as expected, the Precision Strike Winter Soldier figure. The colors on this figure look far better in person than they did on the official images Hasbro sent out for this wave, thankfully, and there’s a decent (but not excellent) amount of articulation built into the Winter Soldier 3 3/4″ figure. I wouldn’t say that this figure is as good as the Thor: The Dark World Hasbro figures from last year, but it’s definitely an improvement over the awful Avengers movie figures.

Captain America Super Soldier Gear Winter Soldier CardbackOn a sidenote, does anyone else think it’s outright insane that a Winter Soldier action figure with a rocket launcher that’s as big as he is has been dubbed the “Precision Strike” Winter Soldier…? That’s a little ludicrous, don’t you think, Hasbro…?

Grapple Cannon Captain America Figure Packaged Hasbro 2014Next up we’ve got Grapple Cannon Captain America, dressed up in his Steve Rogers Super Soldier costume. I’ll refrain from making any smart remarks about the humongous “suction dart” that this Super Soldier Captain America action figure shoots, though it’s definitely difficult to resist such easy material.

Captain America Super Soldier Figure Close-Up Hasbro 3 3/4"I really want to like the Grapple Cannon Captain America figure, but, well… it’s awful. The proportions are a mess, and his totally disproportionate head looks horrible. In addition, I think Hasbro messed up and confused Steve Rogers with The Leader, thus giving him this super-elongate forehead. This figure is a definite pass for me.

Captain America Super Soldier Gear Shockwave Blast Captain America Hasbro FigureThe other version of Cap himself in this series is Shockwave Blast Captain America. In spite of the goofy mega Rocket Launcher this figure comes with, it’s a solid movie Captain America action figure. Nothing particularly riveting given the ubiquitous nature of movie Captain America figures, but nothing appalling either. And yes, I do think it’s a cute touch that Cap’s Rocket Launcher has a red, white and blue color scheme for when Captain America wants to go a patriotic destructive rampage.

Captain America Winter Soldier Red Skull Air Raid 4" Figure PackagedFinally, we’ve got the figure of a character that’s supposedly not even in the Captain America The Winter Soldier movie: the Red Skull (that is, assuming Robert Redford doesn’t turn out to be Red Skull–it’s even in his name! Redford… Red Skull. It’s a sure thing!).

Captain America Super Soldier Gear Red Skull Action Figure Close-UpThe Captain America Super Soldier Gear Air Raid Red Skull is actually really nice-looking. The Air Raid Drone that Red Skull can launch is kind of a fun idea, even if it is something the actual Red Skull would never utilize. This is the shortpacked figure in the series, but I’m not at all convinced that the Red Skull will be hard to find in stores, given the number of Red Skull action figures released the past few years. I’ll definitely pick this figure up once it goes on sale.

Captain America Precision Strike Winter Soldier Figure Close-UpNow that you’ve seen the final production versions of the four Captain America Super Soldier Gear figures, have you changed your mind about them? Will you be picking up The Winter Soldier (or any other figure in this lineup), or has Hasbro failed to get your attention with this series of action figures?

  1. I’m sorry to Hasbro reuse the same static figure molds. There’s no ab crunch, let alone a rotating waist. Don’t even get me started about the lack of wrist and ankle joints. It’s sad.

  2. I got all of these and they feel…chunky…or something. The Red Skull doesn’t he’s the best one. Really well done. Cap(s) and Winter Soldier seem kind of cheap or something. WS should have some kind of gun to hold alongside that stupid launcher that (along with the other launchers) clip on to a helmet (“Marvel Captain America Super Soldier Gear Battle Helmet” $20.99 at TRU) that looks really dumb. Even for a toy aimed at kids, it’s awful. But yeah WS needs a gun. I toss (not in the trash in a drawer) these oversized launchers/devices that ALL these Marvel movie figures come with so he now has nothing and it seems weird. He also seems clunky and you can’t really pose him in any way due to there being (on him and Cap) no torso articulation. Not even a simple rotating middle, it’s weird. Cap’s sheild looks good but it’s sorta hangs off his arm it doesn’t fit on him correctly. Again they seem cheap. Movie Cap holds his a bit better but when I turned him around to look at the back I was disappointed to see they didn’t finish painting his stripes. Or the star on his back white. I mean it’s there it’s just not painted. How much of a fraction of a cent per figure do they save by not finishing painting these things? Are all the Marvel figures going to be front painted only now, that’s horrible…Also EVERY one of these Marvel figures now, including all from this WS assortment, have a hole on their back…why? The shields/weapons don’t have pegs or anthing? I mean, I hate to be complainy guy like this but at $10 they need to get it together.

  3. Both Caps are “movie” Caps, I was calling the full blue costume Cap movie Cap for some reason…

  4. The Capts and Red Skull are the only ones left on the pegs now at my local Wal-Mart. Forget about looking for Bucky-Winter Soldier I ended up buying the last one on the peg about a week ago.

  5. I’m just stunned that there isn’t a Natasha action figure. I’ve really liked my WS one, given it’s few flaws. For a Hasbro toy, it’s adorable and I wanted to get a Black Widow and a Cap to match, but the Cap choices aren’t superb, and there’s no Nat??
There’s even a Red Skull… But there’s no Natasha?? He wasn’t even in the bloody movie! smh
