Marvel Legends X-Men Series Details & Photos

Last week word broke (fresh from Japan!) that we were getting a quasi-unexpected Marvel Legends X-Men Infinite Series this summer! Sweetening the deal, the long-lost (and much-wanted) first-ever Jubilee Build-A-Figure has been moved from last year’s cancelled Marvel Legends wave to this new X-Men Legends wave! I was wondering why we hadn’t heard about these figures sooner, though, and now we know why–the X-Men Marvel Legends figures are a Toys R Us exclusive series…

Marvel Legends Stryfe X-Men Jubilee Build-A-Figure Wave PackagedEvery year at the New York Toy Fair, LEGO shows off all of their summer sets with the exception of their retailer exclusives. So as a big-time LEGO collector, I should have made the connection and realized what was going on when the X-Men Marvel Legends 2014 figures showed up out of nowhere last week in a finished state.

I feared that this year’s Marvel Legends X-Men Jubilee series might end up being another Diamond Comics exclusive for comic book and specialty stores, and am hugely grateful that it is not.

Marvel Legends 2014 X-Men Wolverine Figure

…They’re a Toys R Us exclusive instead. While that is obviously not the ideal situation, I’ve had a far easier time over the year finding Toys R Us exclusive figures than ones at, say, Walmart. These Hasbro X-Men Marvel Legends will be overpriced–make no mistake–but I don’t think that they’ll be a nightmare to find in stores at least.

Let’s take a look at the series…

Toys R Us Exclusive Marvel Legends X-Men Stryfe Action Figure 2014X-Men Marvel Legends Stryfe Figure: Many will consider Stryfe the headliner of this year’s Marvel Legends X-Men Series, and I’d have a tough time arguing against that (although I consider Jubilee the true series headliner).

Cable’s evil doppelgänger, Stryfe is impressively large and bulky, and his armor looks terrific (although his brown-colored sword looks pretty lame). Fans who have been waiting quite a while for Stryfe will not be disappointed in this very well-done 90’s X-Villain. Stryfe includes the Build-A-Figure Jubilee head and plasma energy attachment effects pieces.

Marvel Legends Storm 6 Inch Figure Toys R Us Exclusive Jubilee WaveX-Men Marvel Legends Infinite Series Storm Figure: Storm is the figure that I (and most people) expect to see Hasbro shortpack in the X-Men Legends 6″ series. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Storm in Marvel Legends, but I do think it’s her most attractive figure yet. I hope this figure isn’t going to be a total pain to track down in stores, but I fear it will be.

2014 Marvel Legends X-Men Storm Infinite Series Figure PackagedThis the current Marvel NOW Storm costume with mohawk from the Brian Wood X-Men series. Storm comes packed with Jubilee’s torso and legs (which frankly looks a bit creepy in the packaging, like some sort of mutilated corpse).

Cyclops Marvel Legends X-Men Jubilee Build-A-Figure Wave FigureMarvel Legends X-Men Cyclops Figure: Next up we’ve got Marvel NOW! Cyclops in his Brian Michael Bendis Uncanny X-Men attire. I’ve already heard a lot of ridicule for this figure, but I actually quite like the costume. The X-Men Marvel Legends Cyclops comes with one arm of the Jubilee Build-A-Figure.

2014 X-Men Marvel Legends Magneto Figure Jubilee Build A Figure SeriesX-Men Marvel Legends Magneto Figure: The penultimate figure in the assortment is the first Marvel Legends Magneto figure in many years. He looks awkward and overly bulky to me, so I’m not exceedingly impressed with him, but it’ll be nice to have a red Magneto Marvel Legends figure back on the pegs in 2014.

The X-Men Marvel Legends Infinite Series Magneto includes the other Jubilee Build-A-Figure arm.

X-Men Legends Wolverine Marvel Infinite Series Figure Packaged

Marvel Legends X-Men Wolverine (Unmasked) Figure: Last–and in many peoples’ minds, least–is the new Unmasked Wolverine Marvel Legends figure. This is Wolverine in his now-defunct Astonishing X-Men costume but sans mask.

Wolverine doesn’t come with a Marvel Legends Jubilee Build-A-Figure piece at all, is too tall, has a goofy-looking head sculpt and is likely to be the most heavily-packed figure in the wave. Yay?

Marvel Legends X-Men Series Magneto Packaged with Jubilee Build-A-Figure ArmThe Hasbro 6″ Marvel Legends X-Men Infinite Series figures are allegedly going to be released at Toys R Us stores in June 2014, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them slip into July 2014 instead. I’ll post an update to the Marvel Toy News Facebook page once these are sighted in stores.

Based off the final finished photos of the series, how do you like the X-Men Marvel Legends Jubilee Build-A-Figure Series, Marvel fans? Will these be worth the no-doubt inflated prices Toys R Us will be charging for them?

Marvel Legends X-Men Series Details & Photos — 14 Comments

  1. Honestly? Pretty stoked on these. Cyclops, Stryfe, and Storm in particular. Gotta say, though, that sword that Stryfe is packaged with is some pretty weak ish. But, the attention to detail on the Marvel Now! Cyclops figure is rad (I used to hate that character, but they’ve done a 180 with him in regards to my opinion of him since the AvX arch). Gotta wonder if that paint job will be shoddy when it comes to actual production, though.

    • I’m a bit sad that the Cyclops figure is in black and red when every depiction of him in the comics has a dark red with bright red details on his costume.

      • Fair point, actually. I suppose they could have left the base black (for shadow purposes), and painted in some darker red highlights to simulate the color effects used on Chris Bachalo’s work. Some of the custom figs out there use a tan-ish/brick red for the base, and it works well.

  2. so im gona have to pay aleast 50% more for this figures all because i dont live in the usa but then again im realy hapy hasbro is realising all this figures (exept wolvie wath a waiste of plastic) and magneto didnt loook as derpy as he loked in the first picture, my predictions: hasbro wil put just 1 strom per case Muahahahhaha(hasbro evil laught)

  3. Sigh. So once again the female figure will not only be short packed, but (as always) it’ll come with the key, most important piece of the Jubilee puzzle. Of course this means (also once again) the vultures commonly known as scalpers will circle around the stores like the buzzards they are while honest collectors are at work and will have to pay 3 times the amount for Storm if they want to complete their wave AND Jubilee as well. Why exactly does Hasbro do this? What do they gain? They get zero from the scalpers, so what is it?

  4. They get the buzz of anticipation, guaranteeing sales. Collectors will know they have to rush to get them; scalpers will maneuver to get there first; and it all gets bodies in stores, meaning sales of other items. Even the *hint* of exclusivity leads to a frenzy. Hasbro wins, scalpers win, collectors lose.

  5. Woah, I’ve always wanted a Jubes, but since I don’t have a Toys R’ Us near me, I’m gonna be putting about like 400 dollars for this set. I think I’ll pass on the wolvie, but Stryfe is the first one I’m getting (if I can find him)

    • There are two TRU stores pretty close by, so I’m fortunate, in that regard. But, while I know that the “thrill of the hunt” is part of things: I may simply hope that BigBadToyStore.com throws a full-set order out, and roll with that. I’ve driven myself all over the area, lately, on the hopes that I get beyond-lucky and find some of the hard-to-find Legends figs (Carnage, A.I.M. Soldier, Hydra Soldier to be specific) hanging from a peg.

  6. Bizzare BAF assortment…Storm has about 60% of Jubilee and Wolvie has none. I don’t get it. If they expect Wolvie to sell well, stick a BAF part in it with the hope that it convinces someone to buy the whole set.

  7. Stryfe- 99% new sculpt, awesome. Accessories, soft parts, lots to like.

Cyclops- 5% new sculpt, had to compensate for Stryfe. Fists? Really?

Wolverine- 10% new sculpt, in the old days this would have been a wave chase.

Storm- Has it ever happened before that a figure and it’s pack-in BAF share the same exact parts? except for paint and coat/cape it seems that the head is the only sculpt difference on two characters with rather different bodies.

I would try to buy online, but the TRU X-Men set had TERRIBLE paint apps, so I’d rather pick my own off the pegs if possible.

    • I’ve been looking at this Storm figure and it appears that she has a body that hasn’t been seen before although it seems to be an amalgam of new and old female parts. the upper body looks as though it might be a scaled up version of the Spider-girl mold based on two things, the neck articulation is slightly wider and her arms and (new) hands look bigger this would also make since because of the size of her torso.
The torso and thighs look to be the same mold as Satana and the lower legs look like they are from the mold of last years Emma Frost.
Hasbro sculpts everything digitally now so it is easy for them to change the size of a previous sculpt to fit a need, that also explains why the Marvel Universe and Legends lines share such similar sculpts.

      • I would also say that the % of new sculpt on Cyclops and Wolverine is the same because the only thing new about both are their heads.

  8. I know it says Toys R Us exclusive but Westfield Comics is listing them for pre-order. Their case break down says Stryfe x2, Cyclops x2, Wolverive x2, Storm x1, Magneto x1.
