Ororo Monroe–Storm–has been the subject of some of the longest-running debates in X-Men history. “Who is the most famous X-Woman: Storm or Jean Grey?” “Who is Storm’s OTP: Forge, Black Panther, or Wolverine?” “Who is the greatest leader of the X-Men: Storm or Cyclops?” And perhaps the biggest question of them all: “Which is Storm’s most iconic costume: black or white?”  While Funko initially sided with Team White Costume, there’s hope for the other camp: the Hot Topic Exclusive Funko Black Costume Storm has now turned up for sale online and in some Hot Topic stores!

Ever since her first-ever action figure was released by Toybiz as part of the animated X-Men line in the 1990’s, Storm has been getting the variant costume treatment from toy and collectible companies. From action figures to $350 Sideshow Premium Format Figure statues, Storm toys have been repainted over and over throughout the last few decades.

And so, the king of all exclusive variants–Funko–would be totally remiss if they didn’t release a few Storm variant figures of their very own, right?

The white costume Funko POP Vinyls Storm figure was first released in fall 2014, with a Glow-in-the-Dark exclusive variant being released as a shared Comikaze/Hot Topic exclusive in the fall as well.

And now, a third version of Storm has entered the fray–the legendary black costume Storm has arrived! The only true difference between this version of Ororo and the one released previously is that the white portions of Storm’s costume are now black. And once again, this version of Storm will be exclusive to Hot Topic stores in the United States.

The back of the box is exactly the same as the back of the regular white costume Storm Funko POP Vinyls box because, well… it’s the same box. Since this is just an alternate costume variant with no changes to the mold whatsoever, Black Costume Storm shares both the box and the #59 number designation in the Funko Marvel POP Vinyls numbering system with the previously-released regular version of Storm (as well as the glow-in-the-dark Storm variant).

So if all you care about is having a complete collection of numbers in your Marvel Funko POP Vinyls, then you can probably skip this Storm Black Costume variant and stick with the white costume Storm.

The Black Costume Storm Funko POP! Vinyls figure is now available on the aftermarket for about $20 shipped, and can also be found at many Hot Topic stores for $12.50 plus tax. Most of the sightings of the Funko Black Storm figure have been on the west coast thus far, but she should spread to the other parts of the country within the next one to two weeks. An unmasked Cyclops POP Vinyl figure is also expected to arrive at Hot Topic stores in the next few weeks.
