Marvel Vinylmation Yellowjacket & Wasp LE Set Announced!

We’ve known for a little while now that Disney is unleashing the first series of Disney Vinylmation Marvel Series #1 next month (it drops October 11, 2013 in the Disney Parks and Disney Stores), but Disney has been teasing us with details little by little. At last weekend’s Disney Reflections of Evil event, Disney finally put on display the prototype figures that will make up the set–including a previously unannounced Marvel Vinylmation Yellowjacket & The Wasp set limited to 1000 produced!

Marvel Vinylmation Yellowjacket and The Wasp Figures Set LE 1000

Disney doesn’t treat their Vinylmation brand in the same manner as most action figure companies treat their lines. The line is full of unannounced mystery “chasers” and super rare variants that are typically first discovered for the first time when someone pulls one from a blind box and posts their photo to Instagram. So Disney Vinylmation figure collectors are pretty accustomed to surprises.

While there is scheduled to be a mystery chaser and two variant figures in Marvel Vinylmation Series 1 next month, luckily, not everything is going to catch collectors off-guard. Disney was kind enough to debut a special Vinylmation Marvel Series 1 combo pack at the Disney Reflections of Evil Villains event at EPCOT over the weekend: The Wasp and Yellowjacket (Hank Pym).

Vinylmation Marvel Yellowjacket Figure Hank Pym LE 1000The Vinylmation Marvel Yellowjacket and The Wasp two-pack set will be limited to 1,000 pieces produced. Note that that’s not 1000 pieces for the Disney Stores or the United States–it’s 1,000 pieces to be split between all of the Disney Parks worldwide. It’s unknown if this particular Avengers Vinylmation set will be available through local Disney Stores or the online Disney Store, but based on my experience, with a LE size of just 1000 I have a hunch that it won’t be.

Vinylmation Marvel Wasp Figure 2013 LE 1000 Combo Set with YellowjacketI like the idea of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne being limited, hard-to-get Vinylmation figures. These characters don’t have the same appeal of Hulk and Iron Man and so forth, so it’s likely that for the most part only hardcore Marvel fans and Vinylmation completists will be after this set. The choice of Yellowjacket over one of Hank Pym’s more well-known identities is particularly interesting–could a Vinylmation Ant-Man be the Marvel Vinylmation Chaser for Series 1…? We’ll see.

I’ll be buying all of the Marvel Vinylmation Series 1 blind box series when it hits stores next month, and I’ll do my best to hunt down and secure a Yellowjacket and The Wasp Vinylmation set to review as well (though certain Vinylmation limited edition sets are not the easiest thing to obtain, so no promises).
