Revoltech Ultron Figure Photos & Order Info!

Earlier this month, Bandai opened up pre-orders for their web-exclusive S.H. Figuarts Ultron action figure. But Bandai Tamashii isn’t the only overseas company looking to make bank on an action figure of the lead villain of the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. Up until now, the extent of Kaiyodo’s Marvel offerings has been a multitude of Revoltech Iron Man figures–but that’s going to change this winter when the Revoltech Ultron figure is unleashed!

Although this year’s sequel to the Avengers movie didn’t turn out to be as beloved as fans were hoping for, it’s definitely ended up being a favorite property for collectibles companies to cash in on. From Hasbro figures to Funko vinyls to Hot Toys to Nendoroids to Tsum Tsums, everybody’s looking to profit from Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015.

As such, it’s really left me stumped as to why Kaiyodo hasn’t put any Iron Man figures from the new movie up for order yet, despite released a variety of Marks (from 1 to 42) previously. But while a Revoltech AOU Iron Man figure is still M.I.A., Kaiyodo has now officially announced their first official Age of Ultron Revoltech figure: Ultron himself!

Kaiyodo Ultron Action FigureDesignated as “Figure Complex Movie Revo #2”, Ultron will feature at least 19 points of articulation, and will include a figure display stand, energy effects piece for his hand, and several interchangeable hands.

Kaiyodo Revoltech Ultron Figure with Energy Effects Piece on HandThe translucent yellow energy effects piece is honestly kind of pathetic compared to the gorgeous ones that Bandai creates, but hey–I love effects pieces. I’ll take it, even if it’s not perfect (and it is not).

Revoltech Ultron Head Sculpt with Moving EyesThe Revo Ultron will also include a pick to move his eyes with. This will be the first Marvel figure that Kaiyodo has ever released with articulated eyes, so I’m curious to see what the quality of their execution is.

Crouched Ultron Movie Revo #2 FigureThe only really negatives about this figure are its height and the visibility of the joints. While the fact that Ultron is a robot lends itself far better to hiding the articulation points than human figures do (where the articulation tends to be painfully visible), some of Ultron’s joints are definitely still more apparent than those on the Bandai Figuarts version.

Back of Revo Ultron Movie FigureMeanwhile, this Movie Revo Ultron figure is only going to stand 170 mm tall–that’s about 6.6″ tall. That’s barely taller than your average Hasbro Marvel Legends figure, which means that this Revoltech Ultron action figure is simply not going to have the appearance of a towering menace as he should.

Ultron Revoltech Figure Complex Movie Revo Figure 2015

Personally, I’m going to have to see some in-hand scale photos of this Ultron with Marvel Legends and Avengers Figuarts figures to help decide if I want him–as good as this figure looks, if he’s too dinky to look like a threat to my other 6″ MCU figures, I really don’t have a place for him in my Avengers movie figure display.

The Kaiyodo Ultron Revoltech figure is going to retail for 5800 jpy (Japanese yen), which is the equivalent of about $48 USD. That’s considerably cheaper than the Tamashii Premium SH Figuarts Ultron (especially considering this figure won’t have to be purchased from an import specialist), so this is very likely to turn out to be the Ultron figure of choice for many folks.

Revoltech Ultron Figure and AccessoriesThe Kaiyodo Movie Revo #002 Ultron figure should be available for order later this week, and is expected to be released in December 2015. And yes, I said December 2015–as in “three months from now”. That’s an ultra-fast turnaround time for a Japanese figure, but Kaiyodo have had Ultron in development for a while now and he’s ready to hit shops overseas before the end of the year (though it may take a couple extra weeks for domestic shipments to reach the U.S.).

How do you think the Kaiyodo Figure Complex Movie Revo Ultron figure compares to the Bandai Figuarts Ultron and Marvel Legends Ultron figures, Marvel collectors? Which of these 6″-7″ Ultron figures (if any of them) is going to be the main Ultron of choice in your Avengers movie collection?

  1. I think this looks great. You’re right about the height BUT, this could look very nice displayed with 4″ figures. I think that’s how I’m going to display him.

  2. Arrgh life saver, i’m running dry on cash after all the sh figuarts ironman, captain, hulk so i was telling myself that i passed on sh figuarts ultron but then this come along. Now i have to reconsider. One thing my complaint about revoltech is their flimsy & unstable joints. You need a stand to make it stand. And then you have to highlight on the height of it. I wished they madw him taller….
