When you’re bringing a toy of a relativrly unknown character to retail stores, said toy needs to be really cool to earn buys and avoid rotting off the shelves (or worse, ending up at Ollie’s). Hasbro delivered such a figure with Crystar earlier this year, and (spoilers for the rest of this review) they do so again with this terrific X-Men 97 Marvel Legends X-Cutioner figure that’s shipping out this month as part of wave 2 of the line. “Wild and crazy” as descriptors of what happened to Psylocke in the last years of Chris Claremont’s legendary run on Uncanny X-Men. After being reborn, mind wiped, ethnically changed and soul swapped, Betsy briefly became the Mandarin’s assassin, Lady Mandarin. (I swear it reads better than it summarizes.) As Lady Mandarin, Psylocke battled Wolverine (in his “ninja” attire), until Logan defeated Psylocke and restored her free will. As one of the five original X-Men, you might think we’d see Warren Worthington III in toy form relatively close in frequency to Cyclops, Jean Grey or even Iceman. But nope! Other than Archangel versions, the last classic Angel 6” Marvel Legends figure was released way back in 2005 (by Toybiz). A whole generation has grown up without a chance to buy a 6” Angel figure! Hasbro has decided that’s too long, and thus the first updated Marvel Legends Angel figure in almost two decades is now up for order!

This DST series has released a plethora of iconic comic and movie characters since it began its run in 2016, and this year the Jim Lee X-Men sub-line began to really take shape.
