Iron Studios is one who company that the casual collector awareness of grew explosively for in 2018, largely due to their enormously popular (and expansive!) line of reasonably-priced resin Avengers Infinity War statues. But to close out the year, the banner piece they’ve solicited isn’t movie-based—it’s classic comic book fan all the way: the Iron Studios Hobgoblin Statue is now up for order! Between this and the DST statue, Hobgoblin fans are gonna have quite a choice to make in 2019…
Continue Reading →Considering the fact that the 2013 Scarlet Spider Marvel Legends figure has been in the header for this site ever since I opened it over half a decade ago, I don’t think anyone will be stunned to learn that I’m a big Kaine Parker fan. While that ML Rocket Raccoon Series figure is a bit dated by today’s standards, I loved (and still do love) it. But time has marched forward, action figures have advanced, and it was time for a new version of Kaine to be released. The Marvel Legends SP//DR Series Scarlet Spider figure is already selling out and escalating in price: is it worth upgrading before it’s too late?
Continue Reading →2018 has been a bit of a quiet year for Kotobukiya, with zero new Marvel Bishoujo statues released and little buzz surrounding their ARTFX+ Infinity War and Avengers Series 2 1:10 PVC figures. But one item that exceeded expectations and got a lot of love was the 1:6 scale Webslinger Spider-Man ARTFX Statue. So much love, in fact, that it’s getting a pretty magnificent (and huge!) companion piece next year: the 16.5” Kotobukiya Venom ARTFX Statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →While Hasbro has played all their Captain Marvel movie cards already, we’re still waiting to see exactly what kind of love Carol will be getting from some other prominent companies. Diamond Select Toys finally announced the first of their Captain Marvel collectibles this week (almost certainly with more to come), including a figure that most DST fans’ eyes will be fixed upon: the Marvel Select Captain Marvel figure is now up for order—and hey, there’s a Minimates box set too! But wait, is that… a price increase I see…?
Continue Reading →Earlier this year, Hasbro gave 6” figure collectors their very first dose of a modern X-23 Marvel Legends figure in the Deadpool Sasquatch Series with X-Force X-23. I was taken off-guard by how much I liked that figure, primarily because of its awesome head sculpt. But a few months later, Hasbro hit Laura Kinney fans up again with the version of the character everyone had been waiting for: the Marvel Legends X-23 Wolverine figure! Though she’s hard to find in some areas, you can get ML X-23 Wolverine online for MSRP without a fuss—should you?
Continue Reading →Marvel Gallery by Diamond Select Toys has been one of the big joys to collect in my life this year, so it seems only right that we get another batch of solicitations for the line before 2018 comes to a close! This last wave of solicits for the year includes two statues we knew about—and two that are a complete surprise! The Marvel Gallery Carnage, PS4 Spider-Man, Hulkbuster and Unmasked Mark 50 Iron Man are now up for order!
Continue Reading →Good figures come to those who wait, and after a lengthy development and production time, Diamond Select Toys is almost ready to unleash the remainder of their Marvel Select Infinity War figures! The Disney Store Exclusive Iron Man shocked everyone by being the first-to-market of the movie figures, but his friends that have been up for order for the better part of a year are arriving soon: Avengers Infinity War Marvel Select Iron Spider, Captain America, Thor & Groot!
Continue Reading →While I initially thought that there might not be enough marketable related characters to produce a second wave of Deadpool Legends, Hasbro drew from a much deeper well and used the Sauron Series to give us an assortment that’s more of a pseudo second X-Men wave for the year than anything else. And one of its highlights is an X-Men villain we haven’t seen in 6” form in 13 years! Marvel Legends Omega Red is available now online for above retail price: should you replace your Toybiz version with this one?
Continue Reading →Though it came in totally under the radar for some folks, the last Marvel movie of 2018 is officially out this weekend—Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! No, it’s not part of the MCU—but believe it or not, it just might be as good as any MCU movie this year! And to celebrate the film’s launch, I’ve got a Review for a figure I’ve been holding off on for just this occasion. It’s the final BAF I hadn’t reviewed yet from 2018: Marvel Legends SP//DR Build-A-Figure! You can get SP//DR for 40 bucks completed on ebay–is it worth it?
Continue Reading →I am not ashamed to admit that I’ve got a bit of a thing for She-Hulk. Jennifer Walters is pretty much the perfect woman: brilliant, independent, witty, capable and powerful. Heck, “Shulkie” is one of my nicknames for my wife (who, coincidentally, is also named Jennifer). So whenever a company announces a new She-Hulk collectible? I take notice. And although it’s been years since the last time a high-end statue of the character went up for sale, she’s finally back on the case: the Sideshow Exclusive She-Hulk Adi Granov Series Statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →While Sideshow Collectibles posted teaser photos online of most of their new products making their public debuts on display at New York Comic Con 2018, they kept one nice surprise under wraps to be revealed at the show: a Magneto 1/6 figure! As a character Hot Toys never has and perhaps never will do a movie 12” figure of, this caught a lot of collectors’ eyes. And now the Master of Magnetism is ready to capture their wallets as well: the Sideshow Exclusive Magneto Sixth Scale figure is now up for order!
Continue Reading →The clock is ticking on getting reviews for 2018 Marvel Legends figures posted in their “birth” year, so today I’m doing a two-for-one special with my Marvel Legends Cloak and Dagger Review! When it comes to the upper-echelon of Marvel supporting characters who have never been able to support their own series long-term, Cloak and Dagger have to be considered near the very top of that list. As you might expect, these are two separate figures you’ll have to buy individually. Are ML Cloak & Dagger worth the 35-40 bucks?
Continue Reading →There was a time about four years ago when I still had delusions that it was possible to be a completist with Guardians of the Galaxy merch. With the sheer mass of GOTG collectibles that have been released over the past several years, I’ve realized that goal is pretty unrealistic. But with Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord being my favorite character in the whole MCU, I’m all-in when it comes to Star-Lord toys. So when the Marvel Gallery Star-Lord Unmasked PVC statue started shipping last month, it was on its way to my home shortly thereafter. At 11″ tall and just 40 bucks, it’s a steal value-wish… but is this Chris Pratt figure actually any good…?
Continue Reading →Over half a decade ago, the first review I ever wrote on this site was for the exceptional Marvel Select Venom figure—a figure I still think stands out today as one of the best toys of the character ever. But as that figure has been sold out and unavailable for a while now, many collectors may still need one—and now they’re getting a chance at an updated version: a new Disney Store Exclusive Marvel Select Venom figure is now up for order! And the stylized heads in this set feel anything but rehashed…
Continue Reading →While the biggest news this past week was Hasbro’s reveal of the final figure in the Captain Marvel Legends Series and the packaging for the wave, there were a couple other items of interest I want to backtrack and talk about. And one of them is the latest exclusive addition to the Mezco ONE:12 Collective Marvel 6” figure line: The ONE:12 Collective Cable X-Men variant is now up for order! (You didn’t think Mezco Toyz would let the chance for a popular X-Men costume variant get away, did you?)
