Marvel Legends 2019 Spider-Woman Julia Carpenter Figure Review

I hoped to kick off my 2020 reviews with an actual Marvel Legends 2020 figure review, but I was foiled by the fact that, well… I haven’t received any of the 2020 Marvel Legends figures I ordered yet. Alas! And so, for my first review of the new decade, I’ve got to dip into my cache of unreviewed action figures from the last decade. The Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-Woman Julia Carpenter figure is discounted to just 12 bucks now and is the first 6” Julia since Toybiz did theirs 13 years ago—has Hasbro outdone their ML predecessor this time out?

PCS Collectibles Spider-Man GamerVerse PVC Statues Rhino Spidey

Back in October, collectors got their first taste of what Pop Culture Shock (PCS) Collectibles can do with their magnificent (and incredibly expensive) 1:3 Spider-Man PS4 resin statue. As gorgeous as that piece is (and it is gorgeous), it’s also out of the price range of 95%+ of collectors. But PCS also had a few affordable buns in the oven: super cheap GamerVerse Spider-Man & Rhino PVC statues are now up for pre-order! And that’s not all—value-priced PVCs of other members of the Sinister Six are seemingly on the way as well…

Web Shooting Iron Spider Armor Hot Toys Spider-Man GamerVerse Figure

The popular new joke this year between Hot Toys collectors is that Spider-Man is the new Iron Man, playing off the fact that we’re used to getting many 1/6 Iron Man armors per year and now we’re getting multiple new Spider-Man costumes instead (what with Tony Stark dead now in the MCU and all). Spider-Man and Mary Jane Statue Sideshow J Scott Campbell

While companies look the other way and ignore early reactions to products far too often for many fans’ liking, this week we’ve seen two examples where feedback was heard and the art is a vast improvement as a result. The first example was the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, where Sonic at least looks like himself and not a monster now (even if the writing still doesn’t seem impeccable). The other—and actually relevant—instance is the latest Sideshow Collectibles statue: the J. Scott Campbell Spider-Man & Mary Jane maquette is now up for order!
