Sometimes the stars align and Hasbro can keep a whole wave of Marvel Legends secret until the last moment, and sometimes the stars don’t and the wave is actually in stores internationally before it’s even finished being revealed officially. This latest Disney+ Marvel Legends Hydra Stomper series is the latter occurrence, and seems to be receiving little fanfare even now that it has been announced and put up for order. But with long-awaited characters like live-action Nick Fury, Kingpin and Agatha, does this set deserve to make a bigger splash?

X-Men ‘97 is kind of a big deal (as far as streaming superhero cartoons go), and so Hasbro is planning a fairly big rollout of toys to coincide with the eventual release of the series (which is still undated). As such, there’s more on the way than just the 4” series that includes the Rogue I reviewed yesterday—Hasbro unveiled the first wave of a whole new 6” Marvel Legends X-Men 97 series at SDCC 2023, including a half-dozen updated iconic mutants. San Diego Comic Con 2023 may have been the nexus of the collecting world’s attention last weekend, but there was collecting life going on outside of the event as well! Hasbro has revealed and released such a steady stream of 6” Marvel Legends figures throughout the year so far that with the upcoming Disney+ wave having already leaked, I wasn’t certain they’d have many surprises left to show at SDCC 2023. New Mutants is my lifelong favorite team comic book, so I was all-in for its successor, Generation X, when it launched in 1994. But Toybiz’s Generation X figure line flopped and was cancelled before Toybiz put out half the team—and Gen X merch has felt like it’s seemingly on some sort of radioactive list since.
