It was a pretty big bummer that the Kotobukiya X-Men Beast ARTFX+ statue was a no-show at the Kotobukiya booth at New York Comic-Con 2015 last week, as the Beast statue had been teased before the show and many collectors had expected it to be on display there. We did get to see one slide of the ARTFX+ Beast during the Kotobukiya panel on Sunday, but it’s just not the same as seeing the figure close-up in all its glory. But at least Koto didn’t make us wait too much longer to see glam shots of Mrs. McCoy’s baby boy: the Kotobukiya Beast ARTFX+ statue is now up for order!

It was almost a full year ago at New York Comic Con 2014 that Kotobukiya made their grandiose reveal of their next Marvel ARTFX+ statue series: the Marvel NOW! X-Men. The highlights of that black & white Adi Granov concept art for me were Magik and what I thought to be my favorite costume for Magneto. The king of exclusive figures is at it once again! This week, photos leaked out of the Phillipines of a variety of announced–and unannounced–exclusive Funko POP Vinyls figures scheduled to be released this spring. Some of these are figures that we had heard rumors of, and some of them are totally unexpected. When it comes to the Kotobukiya line of Bishoujo statues, I’m one of the harshest critics out there. As much as I love most of Kotobukiya’s offerings, I often find their Bishoujo statues (such as Starfire and Spider-Woman) to be posed both demeaning and objectifying. Last winter, Marvel collectors were stunned by Diamond Select Toys’ announcement of a Marvel Select Zombie Magneto figure. I remember hearing quite a bit of griping about that figure in the Marvel collecting community, but Zombie Magneto must have done pretty well for himself at retail–because DST will be giving undead Magneto a new deceased friend to play with this summer! Of all the Marvel-related toys and collectibles released this year that I swore I’d never buy and then ended up collecting anyway, the most doofy of them all are the Marvel Super Hero Mashers. I resisted this ludicrous concept as long as I could, but Hasbro sucked me in with some of my favorite characters.
