Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings had an explosively successful Labor Day opening weekend, and that means it’s time to start getting pumped for the next (hopefully) big thing in the MCU: the Eternals! I have some doubts about the mainstream marketability of the Eternals, but nothing ventured, nothing gained—and the LEGO Group is not afraid to take risks on major Marvel Studios movies! After years making their mark in the collecting sphere with Marvel movie-based statues, Iron Studios finally gained the attention of superhero comics-based collectors everywhere when they debuted their line of 1/10 X-Men Sentinel diorama statues two years ago. The X-Men BDS (Battle Diorama Series) has since become an ever-expanding “golden goose” for the company—and now the line is expanding even further! San Diego Comic Con 2021 at Home is going on now, but it’s been rather quiet news-wise for figures nonetheless. Hasbro dropped loads of new Marvel Legends figures (and a $400 World-Devourer) earlier in the month, and Hot Toys had their big week of premieres last week. One of the companies I haven’t talked about here on Marvel Toy News in a long time is XM Studios, who make some of the finest Marvel 1/4 statues in all the land. Since XM doesn’t have a US distribution license for their Marvel statues, they are generally immensely expensive to procure domestically. The second piece in the 2015 line was a classic Thor statue that made up half of a diorama—and five years later, we’re finally getting the second half!
