With under two months until show time, it certainly seems as though New York Comic Con 2021 is going to be a go! Given that we haven’t had a “nerd convention” of this scale in the United States since before the pandemic, I think everyone is still a little wary the event won’t happen at all. But along with news of ReedPop requiring proof of full vaccinations for all attendees 12 and up, we also got news of the first exclusive this week: the NYCC 2021 Exclusive Marvel Zombies Zombie Doctor Doom Bust is now up for order!

The clock is ticking down on the Marvel Legends Galactus HasLab project, and since last week’s reveal of an exclusive Frankie Raye Nova unlockable didn’t do much to move the needle (at all), no time like the present to announce more releases to support backing the World Devourer! And so, that made yesterday the perfect time for Hasbro to officially reveal some figures we basically all knew were on the way anyway: the Marvel Legends Fantastic Four Retro series is now up for order! And while we’ve had the FF a few times in the last couple years, this wave brings us some stuff we’ve never seen before—like Psycho Man and the High Evolutionary!

With less than 28 days to go in the HasLab Marvel Legends Galactus campaign, the project is currently sitting at 10,404 backers–about 74.3% of the 14,000 minimum–met. In isolation, that’s a fantastically (pardon the pun) encouraging number for the World Devourer. But when you take into consideration that the vast majority of those sales are from the first day and most days since have had less than 100 backers, those numbers are a little worrisome. And that may be why, even though Galactus himself hasn’t been backed yet, Hasbro decided to drop the curtain and reveal the first stretch goal yesterday: the first-ever Marvel Legends Frankie Raye Nova figure!
Continue Reading →Last summer, Hasbro lit the Marvel collecting world ablaze with the runaway success of the Marvel Legends Sentinel HasLab figure, a project which obliterated all its stretch goals and netted an amazing 21,000+ backers. So it’s no surprise that Hasbro is back at it again this year with what’s beyond a doubt the most popular other hugely oversized character they could make: the 32” tall Marvel Legends HasLab Galactus figure has now been fully revealed, and the campaign is on to get 14,000+ backers and make this project a reality!
Continue Reading →With events where we’d usually see new Marvel figures revealed cancelled over the last year-plus, I am tremendously missing seeing smaller companies like Mezco Toyz unveil their announcements under a huge automatic hype-generating spotlight. Their latest Marvel reveal would definitely have been incredibly buzz-worthy if it had premiered at, say, Toy Fair—but it’s gotten the attention of many collectors nonetheless: the Mezco ONE:12 Collective Fantastic Four figures box set is now up for order! Does this set capture your attention… and $420?

One such case is the recently-released Sideshow Collectibles Silver Surfer Maquette (with Nova included with the Exclusive Edition). When Sideshow debuted this resin statue last summer, it wasn’t met with the instant universal love. But now that collectors have actually started getting their 1/4 Silver Surfer statues in-hand, things have changed a bit! Let’s take a look…

Teased as a “Bring on the Bad Guys” series, the official name for the wave is apparently “Marvel Legends Super Villains” (probably a more logical name!) and is now up for order! And the Build-A-Figure is one I don’t think many saw coming: the classic Marvel horror monster, Xemnu!

This year has definitely been a little bit on the light side when it comes to new Marvel Select figures being revealed, but this week Diamond Select Toys revealed a character that’s all-new to the line: the Marvel Select Human Torch figure is now up for order! But will this figure be as hot as Johnny Storm’s flame? And that’s not all DST has cooked up: Marvel Gallery Storm and Marvel Premier Collection Logan statues are also on the way!
Continue Reading →2020 has been an unusually slow year for Marvel Select collectors, with only two new figures shown by Diamond Select Toys in the first half of the year: comic book and movie versions of a Taskmaster Select figure. But during the online Comic Con festivities last month, an all-new comics-based figure debuted–and today, he’s officially solicited: the Marvel Select Rampaging Hulk figure is now up for order! And if the size of this 9.75″ behemoth of a figure doesn’t fans’ attention–he’s got a Cosmic/Robot Hulk interchangeable head that will!
Continue Reading →It’s hard to believe that it’s been five years already, but it has now been half a decade since Diamond Select Toys launched their modern Marvel Premier Collection line of resin statues. The second piece in the 2015 line was a classic Thor statue that made up half of a diorama—and five years later, we’re finally getting the second half! The long-awaited Clayburn Moore Marvel Premier Collection Silver Surfer statue is now up for order—and for those who missed it years ago, a new run of Thor is being reissued as well!
Continue Reading →Silver Surfer fans have been demanding a licensed statue of the Sky-Rider of the Spaceways for years, and last winter Sideshow Collectibles officially announced that they were answering the call! And after months of anticipation, the Sideshow EXCLUSIVE Silver Surfer Maquette (with EX Nova companion piece!) is now up for order! The Exclusive Nova statue is definitely one of the better Sideshow exclusives ever, although the 1/4 Silver Surfer statue itself has divided fans somewhat! What do you think of this piece, Marvel collectors?
Continue Reading →It’s a weird time to be a DC Direct collector, as DC Direct decided to cut ties with Diamond Distributors this week. Luckily, all is peachy as usual in the world of Diamond Select Toys Marvel collectibles—and in fact, DST even closed out this week with the announcement of two all-new statue solicitations! Skottie Young and Wolverine fans will all be happy: Marvel Animated Doctor Doom and Marvel Premier Collection Old Man Logan statues are now up for order!
Continue Reading →But wait—there’s more! Before I move on to reviews of the first 2020 Marvel Legends Spider-Man series, there’s one more Fantastic Four Legends figure to review: the Super Skrull Build-A-Figure! Toybiz released several variants of Super Skrull that were ridiculously difficult and expensive to obtain, but you can build this Hasbro Super Skrull BAF “free” if you buy the whole Fantastic Four series. Is he worth buying this wave to complete…?
Continue Reading →While I’ve already previously reviewed the whole new Marvel Legends Fantastic Four team and Doctor Doom figures, there’s still one more single-packed figure left to review from the wave—who, coincidentally, is perhaps the most controversial and least-hyped figure in the Super Skrull series! Succumbing to her rage and PTSD, modern Grey She-Hulk is now available as a Marvel Legends figure for the very first time! This take on Shulkie wasn’t exactly a major hit with comic book fans—but that doesn’t mean her action figure will necessarily share the same fate…
Continue Reading →FLAME ON! Or, at least… sort of on! Maybe 10% on! It’s finally time to complete my reviews of the new Marvel Legends Fantastic Four, with the original Marvel hot-headed young male—Johnny Storm! This is the figure that varies the most wildly from the Walgreens Exclusive version, but this Human Torch is also the easiest Fantastic Four Legends figure to snag online for retail. Is there anything wrong with this flamed-off Human Torch figure, or is non-powered Johnny Storm just not as visually compelling in toy form…?
