I used to find it virtually unthinkable that I would ever prefer any modern costume over Magento’s classic red and purple duds. But then a crazy thing happened: I fell in love with ** Magneto in the Marvel Puzzle Quest game, and white costume Magneto quickly became my favorite costume for him ever. And now, as unlikely as it seemed, the Marvel NOW! white costume has been captured in statue form, and for just over 50 bucks the white Kotobukiya Magneto ARTFX+ Statue is now mine…

Though we’re under a month away from the theatrical release of the Captain America: Civil War movie in theaters, we hadn’t heard a peep from Kotobukiya about any collectibles for the movie. At least, not until this week, when they revealed a pair of complementary statues. I don’t think there’s a Marvel collector in the world who’ll be truly surprised by the characters chosen, but these sure are nice-looking Captain America and Iron Man ARTFX+ statues!
Continue Reading →At this time last year, I was still whining about how Kotobukiya hadn’t even brought unpainted prototypes of any of their Marvel Now X-Men ARTFX+ statues series to New York Toy Fair 2015. Barely over a year later, and that’s a complaint of the past! Not only did Koto have the entire range of ARTFX+ X-Men statues on display at New York Toy Fair 2016, but with this week’s pre-order, the cycle–and the team–are complete: the Kotobukiya Wolverine ARTFX+ statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →My, how time flies! It feels like just yesterday, but it was actually almost exactly a year ago to the day that I was lamenting that Kotobukiya didn’t have a single one of their X-Men ARTFX+ statues on display at last year’s Toy Fair.
And now, as I get ready to leave for the New York Toy Fair 2016, the penultimate character in the line has been fully revealed: the Kotobukiya X-Men Rogue ARTFX+ Statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →It was a pretty big bummer that the Kotobukiya X-Men Beast ARTFX+ statue was a no-show at the Kotobukiya booth at New York Comic-Con 2015 last week, as the Beast statue had been teased before the show and many collectors had expected it to be on display there. We did get to see one slide of the ARTFX+ Beast during the Kotobukiya panel on Sunday, but it’s just not the same as seeing the figure close-up in all its glory. But at least Koto didn’t make us wait too much longer to see glam shots of Mrs. McCoy’s baby boy: the Kotobukiya Beast ARTFX+ statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →If there was one Marvel collectibles-producing manufacturer whose New York Comic-Con 2015 showing came perilously close to disappointing me, it was Kotobukiya. With the exception of some Spider-Gwen Bishoujo concept art, there were zero new Marvel products on display at the Kotobukiya booth.
But it turns out Koto was actually just holding out on us until their Sunday panel, where they revealed new statues of Thanos, Beast and Spider-Gwen!
Continue Reading →It was almost a full year ago at New York Comic Con 2014 that Kotobukiya made their grandiose reveal of their next Marvel ARTFX+ statue series: the Marvel NOW! X-Men. The highlights of that black & white Adi Granov concept art for me were Magik and what I thought to be my favorite costume for Magneto. My heart plummeted when it turned out to be a different Magneto costume, but Koto has come through in the end: the exclusive Kotobukiya Magneto White Costume statue is now available for order!
Continue Reading →Much like a whole generation of kids who grew up swearing to it that Optimus Prime crumbles to dust in the 1986 Transformers movie, it’s likely that there will be millions of viewers out there in a few years who insist there was a grey Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron. But while that too is a fallacy, Hulk does look a more muted green while under the Scarlet Witch’s spell–and that’s the basis for this Entertainment Earth exclusive Kotobukiya Rampaging Hulk ARTFX+ statue that I like far more than I expected to…
Continue Reading →…Well, come on now. You didn’t really think that Kotobukiya was going to break their streak by not releasing a high-end version of Tony Stark’s final armor from Avengers: Age of Ultron, did you?
That’s right–following up this year’s best-selling Mark 43 and Hulkbuster Iron Man statues, Kotobukiya is kicking off 2016 with the MCU’s most popular character as well: the ARTFX Iron Man Mark XLV statue is now available for order!
Continue Reading →2015 has been a bit quiet for X-Men collectors (and by “quiet”, I mean “barren”), but there’s one company that’s really come through for X-Fans: Kotobukiya. The X-Men ARTFX+ line has been a highly well-received treat thus far, with Cyclops having already pre-sold out at some retailers.
And the most obscure (and coolest) member of the team is next in line: the X-Men Kotobukiya Magik ARTFX+ statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →I thought it would be safe to take this week off for our week-long move to a new home, what with this convention happening next week that’s sort of a big deal. See, traditionally, companies save all of their big reveals for San Diego Comic-Con, and so I didn’t expect any new Marvel toy news this week. That’s not really how it worked out, though, so I’ll be catching up as I’m able. And the first item I want to chat about is also the one I’m most excited for–the Marvel Now X-Men Kotobukiya Magneto ARTFX+ Statue has now been revealed!
Continue Reading →2015 is much more likely to go down in history as “the year a lot of awesome X-Men merchandise got cancelled” than as “the year a lot of awesome X-Men merchandise came out”. Disney is putting a hard stop to the production of X-Men collectibles by many of their licensees–but luckily, there are some items already approved and in the pipeline! And one of those statues is the White Queen… in black! The Kotobukiya Emma Frost ARTFX+ statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →Remember the awesome speedboat chase sequence in “Iron Man 3”, or the climactic battle between a tank-driving Mandarin and Iron Man? How about the slick War Machine Mark II armor making it’s debut in the same movie? No…? That’s because all,of that stuff ended up on the cutting-room floor of “Iron Man 3”. And it looks like the proud tradition of deleted material being captured in collectible form is continuing–the exclusive Kotobukiya Rampaging Grey Hulk ARFTX+ statue is now up for order!
Continue Reading →When Kotobukiya revealed their ARTFX+ Deadpool statue last year, it became the first “standalone” Marvel ARTFX+ statue, as it isn’t part of the Marvel NOW! Avengers or X-Men lineups. Of course, Kotobukiya might as well have just called this the “Deadpool Series”, because the third version of this Kotobukiya Deadpool ARTFX+ statue has now been revealed: Partially Unmasked Deadpool with Headpool!
Continue Reading →I saw tons of fresh and exciting upcoming Marvel collectibles at New York Toy Fair 2015 last month, but the single biggest disappointment for me was what wasn’t at the show: the Kotobukiya X-Men ARTFX+ statues quietly announced at NYCC 2014.
I feared major delays, but luckily, I only had to wait a month to see the first complete prototype–the Marvel Now X-Men Kotobukiya Cyclops ARTFX+ statue!
