This week has been as slow as Krakoa (the Island That Walks Like A Man) for Marvel toy news, so let’s dig in with another review from the SDCC 2017 Exclusive Marvel Legends Battle for Asgard set that’s going up for order next week on Hasbro Toy Shop! While the Thor-based set is filled almost entirely with new characters, it does contain one major variant of the titular character: currently selling for $40 and up online, it’s the modern Unworthy Thor himself, Marvel Legends Odinson!

From Ghost to Satanna to Dreadknight, the annual SDCC Marvel Legends box sets have given us some pretty obscure characters for the first time in 6″ form over the years. But this year’s Battle for Asgard set takes the proverbial cake with a character who’s not exactly a household name–but who just might be one of the best Hasbro figures in one of these con exclusive sets ever! He’s already selling for 40-50 bucks on the aftermarket because he’s just so cool: Marvel Legends Bor!

Hot Toys caught many collectors–including me–off guard when they debuted not just 1/6 Gladiator Thor at San Diego Comic Con 2017, but also an unexpected Roadworn Thor figure! When there were two versions of Thor for one movie for the second time ever, I had my suspicions the non-gladiator version would be an exclusive. When Hasbro sent out official photos and product descriptions for the kid-aimed Thor Ragnarok movie toys yesterday, we all knew it was only a precursor to the collector-focused Marvel Legends Thor Ragnarok toys being revealed later this week. Now, I wouldn’t have predicted that those figures would have been revealed at 10AM on Gizmondo, mind you, but hey–the important thing is that the long-awaited, beautiful movie toys have now been unveiled! And yes, contrary to the fishy rumors going around, this wave is in fact headlined by a Marvel Legends Gladiator Hulk Build-A-Figure!

Although we’re still over four months away from the theatrical release of this fall’s Thor Ragnarok movie, it’s time for the hype train to start rolling now! Marvel collectors around the world are waiting patiently to see the 6″ Marvel Legends Thor Ragnarok movie figures unveiled (to fill out the Thor Legends series alongside the comic figures Hasbro revealed earlier this month)–but those are a story for another day. Today we’re going to take a look at the more kid-centric toys Hasbro has prepped for Thor Ragnarok–including a 13″ Gladiator Hulk Interactive figure!

At this point, we can feel pretty confident that every new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie that comes out will be accompanied by at least one Marvel Select action figure, as every single MCU movie since Avengers–except the first Guardians of the Galaxy–has. As such, it was more a question of “when” than “if” we’d see Thor Ragnarok figures announced. But the inevitable has occurred, and we can all start getting pumped up now–the Marvel Select Ragnarok Thor & Gladiator Hulk figures are now up for order!

One of the biggest surprises for me at Star Wars Celebration Orlando this April was that Gentle Giant Ltd. actually brought a handful of never-before-seen Marvel statue prototypes to show off at their booth at the event, including Punisher and Star-Lord statues and a new Skottie Young Thor Marvel Babies statue. I’ve been mightily looking forward to the pre-order for at least one of those pieces ever since, and the time has come: the Marvel Collector’s Gallery Punisher and Animated Thor statues are now up for order!

When it comes to sixth scale Marvel movie figures, Hot Toys literally has the market cornered (and with good reason). But outside of the MCU, Hasbro and Sideshow Collectibles are chugging along with comic-based Marvel 12″ figures. And while the two companies didn’t overlap at all with their first batches of characters, for the first time we’ve got a match: the Sideshow Exclusive Thor Sixth Scale figure is now up for order! And he’s got one big advantage over the Marvel Legends version: Thor Frog!
