The single-biggest toy shopping day thus far in 2015 is nearly upon us, but for a change, Marvel won’t be the impetus for collectors going wild tomorrow: Star Wars will be! But while Marvel won’t be at the eye of the storm this time, Walgreens Marvel Animated Minimates Series 1 will be hitting stores–which means that now is the perfect time to talk about things to come: Animated Marvel Minimates Series 1.5!

2015 has been an excellent “make-good” year for previously-canceled Hasbro Marvel action figures. In the 6″ Marvel Legends lineup, we’ve finally gotten the long-lost Iron Fist, Sentry, Blizzard, Tigershark, Bulldozer and more. And now we can add one more previously M.I.A. figure to that list: the Marvel Legends Rescue figure is finally coming out–as the 2016 Marvel Unlimited Plus exclusive figure!

After realizing that 95% of the stuff that came in each month’s Loot Crate was just that I ended up throwing into a Goodwill box, I quickly fell out of love with Loot Crate and cancelled my subscription.
Luckily, Funko launched the Marvel Collector Corps to fill the mystery box void in my heart. And after two decent first boxes, Funko really struck gold with their August 2015 Marvel Collector Corps Secret Wars box, which is easily the best mystery box I’ve ever gotten…

Remember last year, when the Walgreens Exclusive Marvel Legends Agent Venom figure was revealed at SDCC 2014, and then we had to wait what felt like eons for it to finally start arriving at retail stores…? Yeah–this isn’t gonna be like that. This year, Walgreens has their act together and is ready to strike while the iron is hot. After just debuting in the Hasbro showcase at SDCC 2015 one week ago, the exclusive Walgreens Ant-Man Marvel Legends figure has already begun hitting stores this week!

Let’s face facts: there are not a ton of marketable characters (as far as merch goes) in next month’s Ant-Man movie. When the third-biggest name in the movie is “Ant-thony the Ant”, you know you’ve got a problem. And so, I’ve been waiting patiently for the first of the inevitable Unmasked Ant-Man figures to be revealed. I thought it would be Funko, but I was wrong: the exclusive Marvel Select Unmasked Ant-Man is now up for order!

We’re now under a month until the arrival of the Ant-Man movie in theaters, and that means that the modest onslaught of Ant-Man merch is now beginning to pour into stores! Toys R Us stores decided to break street date and release the Marvel Legends Ant-Man Series into stores earlier this month, and the Funko POP Vinyls Ant-Man and Yellowjacket figures have also begun to hit retail. And now, what may be the coolest of the Ant-Man Funko products is arriving as well–the Hot Topic exclusive Funko Glow-in-the-Dark Ant-Man POP Vinyl is available online and in some stores!

With somewhere around a thousand Marvel Minimates figures released over the years (no, seriously–there’s right around a thousand), it might seem like there’s not a lot of fresh directions for Diamond Select Toys to take the mini figures line in.
But in a real surprise move, it was announced today that there actually is a new frontier of untapped potential for Marvel Minimates. An all-new line of Minimates Marvel Animated figures is on the way–and it’s exclusive to Walgreens!

I’m pretty sure that at this point, Funko is releasing enough new vinyl figures for every collector to buy one each day of the year (money willing). And while the majority of those releases are still general, mass-release items, there’s plenty of exclusives to go around! Though Amazon didn’t get their own exclusive for Avengers Age of Ultron, they did have exclusives for Guardians of the Galaxy and Big Hero 6. And now, the tradition continues with another sure-to-be fast-sellout: the exclusive Funko Glow in the Dark Yellowjacket POP Vinyls figure is now up for order!

Here’s a Marvel toys fact that may blow some minds: even with the increasing multitude of Sideshow Collectibles Premium Format Figures being released each year, there’s only been one classic red-and-blue Spider-Man Premium Format Figure released. Ever. That was way back in 2006, and that Premium Format Spider-Man sells for over $1,200 these days. But there are some characters that once just isn’t enough for, and Spidey is one of them: the new Sideshow Exclusive Spider-Man Premium Format Figure is now up for order!

Remember that Marvel Comics crossover from a few years ago called “Siege”, where the Sentry rips Ares in half? Well, I’m picturing that scene as Funko continues their siege on my wallet, ripping my bank account in half with a parade of can’t-skip collectibles. Funko Hikari are my Kryptonite, and another pair have now been announced: the Funko Hikari Blue Deadpool and regular Hulk figures are now up for order! And with discounts, you can get them for almost half price! Read on…

Just hearing the word “limited edition” will get me to sit up straight and take notice without fail. Whether it be statues, action figures or food (the most insidious limited item of them all), attaching the word “limited” instantly make something more desirable. And as usual, Funko is ready to capitalize on this phenomenon. Coming soon to Hot Topic stores–numbered, limited edition Marvel Funko POP Vinyl T-Shirts!

Most recent Marvel movies have had a clear breakout character, be it Hulk, Loki or the Winter Soldier. Avengers: Age of Ultron is a little bit weird, though, in that its breakout star isn’t a new character at all–it’s an armor! Having generated more hype and merch than just about any other character, it’s a surprise that the kid-focused Marvel Mashers line hasn’t gotten its own Hulkbuster before now. But the wait is at an end–the Mashers Hulkbuster Iron Man has arrived… and it’s exclusive to Walmart!

Remember the awesome speedboat chase sequence in “Iron Man 3”, or the climactic battle between a tank-driving Mandarin and Iron Man? How about the slick War Machine Mark II armor making it’s debut in the same movie? No…? That’s because all,of that stuff ended up on the cutting-room floor of “Iron Man 3”. And it looks like the proud tradition of deleted material being captured in collectible form is continuing–the exclusive Kotobukiya Rampaging Grey Hulk ARFTX+ statue is now up for order!

Ororo Monroe–Storm–has been the subject of some of the longest-running debates in X-Men history. “Who is the most famous X-Woman: Storm or Jean Grey?” “Who is Storm’s OTP: Forge, Black Panther, or Wolverine?” “Who is the greatest leader of the X-Men: Storm or Cyclops?” And perhaps the biggest question of them all: “Which is Storm’s most iconic costume: black or white?” While Funko initially sided with Team White Costume, there’s hope for the other camp: the Hot Topic Exclusive Funko Black Costume Storm has now turned up for sale online and in some Hot Topic stores!

A decade ago, I could pretty much plan on at least one store-exclusive Star Wars store figure, vehicle or box set being released per month. These days, though, Marvel has stolen all the store-exclusive mojo (for now), and it seems you can’t throw a rock without hitting a bunch of exclusive Marvel figures. And today, I finally stumbled across an Avengers Age of Ultron 3-Pack I’d been watching out for for months, including the exclusive Hasbro 4″ Ultron Mark 1 figure!
