I have developed a new Marvel collecting problem over the last year, and that problem is called Funko Hikari. See, Funko charges $80 each for their Hikari Sofubi vinyls; Hikaris take up a ton of space, and Funko releases a half-dozen colorways of every mold. And I’ve bought all the Marvel ones so far. All of them. So at New York Toy Fair 2015, my heart soared–and my wallet cried–when the Funko Hikari Hulk and Iron Man figures were revealed!

When it was announced a couple months ago that Kotobukiya was producing Avengers Age of Ultron ARTFX+ statues, my gut feeling was “Meh. When Hasbro marched out the Guardians of the Galaxy 2.5″ figures last year, they weren’t exactly met with abundant love and praise. While the smaller scale allowed Hasbro to produce affordable in-scale vehicles, the figures themselves were lacking in articulation, paint apps and sculpting detail, making them some of the most collector-derided Marvel figures of 2014. Collectors used to the Marvel Universe style of super-articulated 3 3/4″ figures were just not impressed. And it looks like they’ll continue to be unimpressed in 2015, as a series of Hasbro Avengers Age of Ultron 2.5″ figures is on the way… along with a Quinjet and Avengers Tower playset!

When Hot Toys announced we’d be seeing some of their Avengers: Age of Ultron Movie Masterpiece Series figures debut at this week’s Toy Soul 2014 event, I kinda didn’t realize that they meant they were bringing almost the whole lineup to the show. Even so, Hot Toys brought the core six members of the Avengers, as well as Thanos and Hulkbuster Iron Man to the event. But while some figures look polished and amazing, some of them are clearly just in-development placeholders. While their collector-oriented releases for 2014 are just about at an end, Hasbro still has a plethora of kid-focused Marvel action figures lined up for the second half of 2014! The Hasbro Marvel Super Hero Mashers figures are a line that I legit thought were some sort of prank when they debuted, but their stylized look has really started to grow on me. And now I’ve ordered a pair of Marvel Mashers figures online for the first time ever. Why? Hulk is a unique character in that he doesn’t just change his costume–he changes his entire person when he changes into different forms of himself. But not content with the one-man-army of iterations of himself, Hulk has joined a super-team composed entirely of Hulk-related characters for a currently-airing animated series–“Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.”! The “Hulk and the Agents of SMASH” cartoon series has been running for almost a full year now and has had a successful run, and that means that Hasbro has finally deigned to give fans what they really want: toys! The first Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. figures and toys have now been released!
