When speculation hit the net that the major licensed 2014 LEGO sets would be delayed past January 2014 until after the theatrical release of The LEGO Movie (so as not to damage LEGO Movie sets’ early sales), I thought that notion was silly.
But I guess maybe there was something to that rumor after all… the LEGO Movie hit theaters just days ago, and like magic, all of the LEGO Marvel 2014 sets have suddenly appeared in LEGO stores!

Though the first photos of Funko Marvel Mystery Minis Series 1 leaked out a little bit earlier this month, we’ve had to wait a bit for Funko to confirm the assortment and send out hi-res images of the set. Through a welcome bit of good fortune, the Marvel Universe Abomination figure that I ordered from Amazon earlier this month turned out to be the Hasbro Marvel Universe A-Bomb variant figure when it actually arrived. The chances of me paying out the wazoo for this character were zero, but I was pretty ecstatic to get him for the $11.99 shipped I ended up paying. Of course, it would be a moot point if the MU A-Bomb action figure turned out to be a dud. Back in July during SDCC 2013, photos leaked out of a pair of hitherto-unannounced Marvel Funko POP! Vinyl figures: a Peter Parker POP Vinyl and a Compound Hulk POP Vinyl. We’ve gone a while with nary a word about either figure, but since both are mere repaints, it was always pretty certain that they would turn up eventually–and now, the first one has! We saw it painted at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con last month, so it’s not going to shock anyone that the Marvel Now Hulk ARTFX+ Statue is kicking off the Kotobukiya Avengers Now line. We knew going into this weekend’s D23 Expo 2013 that that first series of Disney Vinylmation Marvel figures wasn’t going to be until fall, so there were zero expectations for an early release at the convention or anything like that. But sometimes it’s nice to have the bar set low, because then you can be pleasantly surprised!
No, Disney didn’t sell the series at the show, but they did give out free promotional trading cards showing off photos of the Vinylmation Marvel Series 1 figures for the very first time!
