Earlier this week, pre-orders popped up half-expectedly for the 2016 Marvel Legends Spider-Man Absorbing Man series. At the time, we only had grainy, low-res images to make our ordering decisions based on. But if you were waiting for hi-res photos to make up your mind, Hasbro has now sent out gorgeous official images of the whole wave! It’s been a long wait since the series was revealed at SDCC 2015 back in July, but the time has come at last: the first wave of Spider-Man Marvel Legends 2016 figures is now available for order! Sometimes we have to wait until January to roll around to get our first batch of a new year’s Hasbro Marvel Legends 6″ figures, and sometimes we do not. I was totally surprised by the lack of a Funko POP Vinyls Green Goblin in the Villains Marvel Collector Corps subscription box that came out last month, as I figured ol’ Gobby was a shoe-in for a release as a limited exclusive in that box. 2015 has been a downright incredible year for Marvel Legends collectors, no doubt about it. Hasbro released six full new waves of Marvel Legends 6″ figures this year, in addition to numerous exclusive releases. In total, over 50 new Marvel Legends action figures released this year! With the recent releases of the Target 3-Pack and Walgreens First Appearance Daredevil exclusives, all of the 2015 Marvel Legends 6″ figures that had been scheduled have now been released. But don’t get too comfortable, Marvel collectors! While we’ve still likely got 6-8 weeks before they begin to arrive in the United States (less if Hasbro wants to rush them for Christmas), photos have leaked out of the factories in China giving us our first look at next year’s packaging and the final finished figures composing the 2016 Marvel Legends Captain America Civil War and Spider-Man series!

The Spider-Man Marvel Legends Rhino Series is one of my favorite Hasbro Marvel Legends 6″ series ever, as it’s filling in character gaps both vital (Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider, Chameleon) and ridiculously obscure. Sideshow Collectibles has made it no secret that they were planning on making variants of their new-for-2016, gravity-defying Spider-Man Premium Format Figure. In fact, before ol’ classic red-and-blue Spidey even went up for order, an image had already leaked out of a Black Costume Spider-Man Premium Format statue.

It used to be that you could count on some dead characters in the Marvel Universe staying dead–namely: Bucky, Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy. But evidently nothing is holy anymore when it comes to dead folks, because iterations of all those characters are alive and active in current Marvel storylines.

Tragically, in this day and age of early internet leaks, it’s getting harder and harder for toy companies to ever truly surprise collectors with reveals that are totally unexpected. On San Diego Comic-Con 2015 Preview Night, Hasbro debuted the Marvel Legends Walgreens exclusives that everyone had known about for months. And on Thursday–the first full day of the convention–Hasbro next debuting products turn out to be another lineup that avid fans already knew to expect–but man, what a lineup!
