LEGO Marvel fans were dumbfounded when the trio of LEGO Iron Man 3 sets were revealed. The major shocker wasn’t even that two of the three Iron Man LEGO sets didn’t occur in the movie at all (Iron Man vs. The Mandarin in a giant tank?! Something I have literally been looking forward to for months is the opportunity to see the Play Imaginative Iron Man Super Alloy figures in person. I’d seen online images of the figures earlier this year, but they didn’t seem like anything special or worth their hefty price tags. Japanese company Kaiyodo’s name isn’t quite synonymous with “Marvel figures”, but that’s not to say that they haven’t produced their fair share of them as Revoltech figures. Of course, all but one of those Kaiyodo Revoltech Marvel figures have something in common: they’re all figures of various permutations of the Iron Man armor–and their next release will be no exception! If that headline sounds absolutely ridiculous to you, it should–it coincides with one of the more bizarre occurrences I’ve seen while collecting Marvel figures or Disney Vinylmation. Despite earlier statements that Disney Vinylmation Marvel Series 1 would be sold in stores–and the display sample figures being sent to the Disney Stores already–Disney has backtracked today and instead decided that the Marvel Vinylmation Series will not be sold in Disney Stores at this time…
UPDATE 10/10/2013: Disney is now saying via their official Vinylmation site that the release is back on and the Vinylmation Marvel Series will in fact be released tomorrow, October 11th 2013.

I’ve done way more than my fair share of whining and complaining about the miniscule amount of Marvel New York Comic Con 2013 exclusives, but I’m ready to take it all back now and fall down on my knees, praising Marvel for their kindness and benevolence. Marvel has just announced the list of exclusives that they’ll have on-hand at NYCC 2013 at the Marvel booth, and one of the items is perhaps my favorite exclusive by any company this year: the Marvel Shop 2013 NYCC Exclusive Rocket Raccoon plush toy!

We’ve known for a little while now that Disney is unleashing the first series of Disney Vinylmation Marvel Series #1 next month (it drops October 11, 2013 in the Disney Parks and Disney Stores), but Disney has been teasing us with details little by little. Sad but true: There are not a ton of great Marvel exclusives for New York Comic Con 2013. There’s that awesome Funko Stan Lee POP! Vinyls figure announced a few weeks back, but that’s really it for Marvel toys collectors. LEGO is not attending NYCC 2013, and Diamond Select Toys has confirmed they won’t be bringing any Marvel Minimates NYCC 2013 exclusives. Paying $200-$300 each for a 1/6 Hot Toys 12″ Iron Man action figure was a pretty difficult thing transition for me to make. Getting me to pay $100+ for a 1/12 scale 6″ figure, however, is something I would have said is impossible.

We knew going into this weekend’s D23 Expo 2013 that that first series of Disney Vinylmation Marvel figures wasn’t going to be until fall, so there were zero expectations for an early release at the convention or anything like that. But sometimes it’s nice to have the bar set low, because then you can be pleasantly surprised!
No, Disney didn’t sell the series at the show, but they did give out free promotional trading cards showing off photos of the Vinylmation Marvel Series 1 figures for the very first time!
