When it comes to the Kotobukiya line of Bishoujo statues, I’m one of the harshest critics out there. As much as I love most of Kotobukiya’s offerings, I often find their Bishoujo statues (such as Starfire and Spider-Woman) to be posed both demeaning and objectifying. I saw tons of fresh and exciting upcoming Marvel collectibles at New York Toy Fair 2015 last month, but the single biggest disappointment for me was what wasn’t at the show: the Kotobukiya X-Men ARTFX+ statues quietly announced at NYCC 2014.

I feared major delays, but luckily, I only had to wait a month to see the first complete prototype–the Marvel Now X-Men Kotobukiya Cyclops ARTFX+ statue!

One of my first stops at the 2015 New York Toy Fair today was the Kotobukiya booth, which I cruised into with a sparkle in my eyes and dreams of seeing the Kotobukiya X-Men ARTFX+ statues in my heart. Unfortunately, those dreams were shattered.

Over the weekend, Kotobukiya revealed the full concept artwork for the upcoming Lady Deadpool Bishoujo statue.

I figured that Koto might at least be saving the official photos of the final Bishoujo Wasp prototype until after the New York Toy Fair 2015 (so that they could debut the actual Wasp statue at the event), but clearly that was not the plan: the Kotobukiya Wasp Bishoujo statue is now fully-revealed and up for order!

Last week, Kotobukiya knocked the respective socks off of Marvel collectors everywhere when they revealed their first two Avengers: Age of Ultron ARTFX+ statues: Hulk and Hulkbuster Iron Man. At the time, I predicted that these would be the two most expensive Kotobukiya Marvel ARTFX+ statues released to date–and I was right. A couple days ago, Kotobukiya posted a small piece of a drawing of what appeared to be Bishoujo Lady Deadpool statue concept art. I figured that that was the teaser that would lead up to Kotobukiya debuting the full concept art for Lady Deadpool at the New York Toy Fair 2015 next weekend.

But, surprise! Kotobukiya had other ideas, as they premiered the full Kotobukiya Lady Deadpool Bishoujo statue concept drawing in Japan today!

I’ve covered all of the totally new items that appeared at New York Comic Con 2014 now, but there were plenty more freshly updated items on display at the convention as well. One such item was the long in development Kotobukiya Rogue X-Men Danger Room Sessions Fine Arts Statue.

This statue has changed drastically from the first time we saw it years ago, and for the first time ever, we got to see Rogue painted at NYCC 2014! Was she worth the wait?

…Well, that was fast. Kotobukiya hasn’t exactly been trying to keep it a secret that they have a grey X-Force Deadpool ARTFX+ variant statue in the works for next year, what with them openly talking about it at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 last month and showing off sneak peek photos last week. Even so, for some weird reason I thought that this variant statue wouldn’t be going up for sale for a while yet, as it was scheduled to be a store exclusive. I thought wrong! The statue will be exclusive to all retailers who use Diamond Previews, and the exclusive Kotobukiya Deadpool X-Force ARTFX+ statue variant is now up for order!

San Diego Comic Con 2014 is officially underway, and the reveals are coming at a fast and furious pace–perhaps more so than any year I can remember ever! Though they’re not the biggest company at the convention and may be getting lost in the shuffle just a little bit, Kotobukiya has debuted some major Marvel statues at the show, including a Fine Arts Statue that hadn’t even been teased previously! It’s impossible to have a conversation about modern comic book characters that have exploded into ‘A’-List headliners for their respective companies without mentioning the Merc with a Mouth himself, Deadpool. Despite having only first appeared in 1991, the fairly recently-created Deadpool has become one of the most popular and recognizable characters in the entire comic book world.
