With only a handful of Marvel Bishoujo statues released between San Diego Comic-Con 2013 and San Diego Comic-Con 2014, it’s always been glaringly obvious to me that we’d be getting an exclusive She-Hulk Bishoujo statue variant at this year’s show.
But I was thinking small potatoes, and Koto was thinking big ones! No, this year’s exclusive isn’t a Fantastic Four She-Hulk–it’s the SDCC 2015 Kotobukiya Red She-Hulk Bishoujo statue!

From creating Ultron to smacking around his wife (The Wasp), there’s probably been more criticism aimed at poor ol’ Hank Pym over the years than any other member of the Avengers. But one of Hank Pym’s greatest failures came in recent years, when he allowed a bunch of the children he was responsible for at the Avengers Academy to be kidnapped and brutally murdered by Arcade (yes, Arcade). It’s unlikely that many Avengers Academy characters will ever see the light of day in plastic form, but now we can all commemorate this glorious era in Hank Pym’s life with the Marvel Legends Giant-Man figure available as part of the Ant-Man Legends Series!

Let’s face facts: there are not a ton of marketable characters (as far as merch goes) in next month’s Ant-Man movie. When the third-biggest name in the movie is “Ant-thony the Ant”, you know you’ve got a problem. And so, I’ve been waiting patiently for the first of the inevitable Unmasked Ant-Man figures to be revealed. I thought it would be Funko, but I was wrong: the exclusive Marvel Select Unmasked Ant-Man is now up for order!

We’re now under a month until the arrival of the Ant-Man movie in theaters, and that means that the modest onslaught of Ant-Man merch is now beginning to pour into stores! Toys R Us stores decided to break street date and release the Marvel Legends Ant-Man Series into stores earlier this month, and the Funko POP Vinyls Ant-Man and Yellowjacket figures have also begun to hit retail. And now, what may be the coolest of the Ant-Man Funko products is arriving as well–the Hot Topic exclusive Funko Glow-in-the-Dark Ant-Man POP Vinyl is available online and in some stores!

If there’s a prize to be won for the most bizarre movie-themed Marvel Legends set ever, the Hasbro Marvel Legends Ant-Man Series definitely wins it. The set includes one movie figure of the titular character, five comic book-based characters related to Ant-Man in varying degrees, and a Build-A-Figure from a different movie altogether. Due to his starring antagonistic role in Avengers Age of Ultron, the Ultron Prime Marvel Legends figure is one of the more anticipated BAFs of 2015. The 8″ Marvel Legends Ultron Prime Build-A-Figure has now arrived… but is it worth buying $120 in other figures to build him?

What with the Marvel Legends Ant-Man Series having a hard street date of July 3rd 2015 (and Amazon shipping theirs July 1st), I really wasn’t expecting to see the figures hit stores two weeks early. But if there’s one chain that doesn’t mind breaking the rules and ignoring street dates, it’s Toys R Us–and many Toys R Us stores (including mine) have now begun stocking the Hasbro Ant-Man Legends figures early!

No matter how much I fuss and insist I’ll never buy certain lines of Marvel items, the best companies usually find a way to drag me in. Kotobukiya did it with their Bishoujo Jubilee statue, Medicom baited my with their Retro Rocket Raccoon Sofubi, and now, Diamond Select has somehow managed to lure me in for zombies (yes, zombies)! Coming this fall: the Minimates Marvel Zombies Age of Ultron box set is now up for order!

While they were super-light on Marvel exclusives at SDCC 2014, Funko is clearly aiming to beat every other licensee in sheer quantity of exclusive Marvel toys at SDCC 2015! Thus far, they’ve announced the X-Force Deadpool Chimichanga Truck, a super-lame unmasked Baymax POP Vinyl, and a not-quite-“limited” Cosmic Powers Deadpool Hikari. And now? Funko has revealed a Marvel POP! that everyone is gonna want: it’s the Funko POP Vinyls Ant-Man Black Out figure, featuring the Hank Pym Ant-Man costume!

With no substantial rumors swirling about and no leaked images of unknown Marvel Infinite Series 3 3/4″ figures surfacing from overseas, I’ve had my doubts for a while now that we would actually see any kind of exclusive SDCC 2015 Marvel Universe figures set from Hasbro. Well, I think we can effectively put the nail in the coffin of any chance of a SDCC 2015 Marvel Infinite Series set today, as Hasbro has revealed its final two Comic-Con exclusive Marvel items: six figures themed around Ant-Man! But hey… one of them is 3 3/4″. That’s pretty good, right…?

With somewhere around a thousand Marvel Minimates figures released over the years (no, seriously–there’s right around a thousand), it might seem like there’s not a lot of fresh directions for Diamond Select Toys to take the mini figures line in.
But in a real surprise move, it was announced today that there actually is a new frontier of untapped potential for Marvel Minimates. An all-new line of Minimates Marvel Animated figures is on the way–and it’s exclusive to Walgreens!

Considering that I like the Funko Marvel Hikari vinyls more than just about any other Marvel toys on the market this year, you would think I’d be overjoyed about the first officially-announced SDCC 2015 Marvel Funko Hikari. But due to a combination of expense fatigue and a shockingly high edition size, I’m just not all that psyched about the SDCC Exclusive Funko Cosmic Powers Deadpool Hikari figure…

With hype for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie in full swing last July, the SDCC 2013 Exclusive Rocket Raccoon Warbird set became a hot commodity that blew away everyone’s expectations, at one time selling for well over $200 on the afternarket. This year’s exclusive LEGO Marvel box set… is probably going to be a tad less desirable: it’s the just-announced exclusive SDCC 2015 LEGO Throne of Ultron set!

Following his surprisingly decent-sized role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2015 has turned out to be a far bigger year for War Machine figures than I ever imagined! New figures are coming this year from Marvel Legends, Hot Toys, SH Figuarts, Minimates, Sideshow Collectibles and more. And now, we can add perhaps the most unique entry of all to that list: the unique Sentinel RE:EDIT War Machine figure is now up for order!

2015 is much more likely to go down in history as “the year a lot of awesome X-Men merchandise got cancelled” than as “the year a lot of awesome X-Men merchandise came out”. Disney is putting a hard stop to the production of X-Men collectibles by many of their licensees–but luckily, there are some items already approved and in the pipeline! And one of those statues is the White Queen… in black! The Kotobukiya Emma Frost ARTFX+ statue is now up for order!

With under a month to go until the biggest comic convention of 2015 (that isn’t New York Comic Con 2015), the Marvel exclusives are finally being revealed fast and furiously! I don’t think anyone really believed that there would only be one SDCC 2015 exclusive Funko Marvel POP Vinyl, and sure enough, there are more! But the one Funko has now announced is one I probably should have been expecting, but was not: the SDCC Funko X-Force Deadpool Chimichanga Truck POP Rides set!
