Heading into San Diego Comic Con 2014, we really didn’t know what to expect from the Hasbro Marvel Legends 6″ figures line. With no major Marvel movies scheduled for 2015 beyond Avengers, would Hasbro opt for a second series of Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Legends or X-Men Legends? Nope!
Hasbro is taking the safe and smart route, kicking off their SDCC 2014 reveals–and the Marvel Legends 2015 figures line–with the Avengers Marvel Legends Odin Build-A-Figure Series!

One of the hottest new collectible lines of 2014 thus far is the Funko Hikari line of Japanese style vinyl figures. The limited-edition Funko Hikaris appeared out of nowhere at the New York Toy Fair 2014 and instantly sold out across the internet. But Batman and He-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans got all the love with the first batch of Funko Hikari figures, while Marvel fans were left in the dust. The disappointment for Marvel fans is over, though–at SDCC 2014 this week, a small army of Funko Hikari Spider-Man figures debuted!

San Diego Comic Con 2014 is officially underway, and the reveals are coming at a fast and furious pace–perhaps more so than any year I can remember ever! Though they’re not the biggest company at the convention and may be getting lost in the shuffle just a little bit, Kotobukiya has debuted some major Marvel statues at the show, including a Fine Arts Statue that hadn’t even been teased previously! It’s impossible to have a conversation about modern comic book characters that have exploded into ‘A’-List headliners for their respective companies without mentioning the Merc with a Mouth himself, Deadpool. Last month I reviewed the awesome Marvel Funko Fabrikations Deadpool figure, the first Marvel character to be released as part of the Funko Fabrikations soft sculptures line of toys. I gave the Funko Deadpool Fabrikations figure a glowing review and said that Funko was “going to have a tough time topping ‘Pool”. I fully expected the second Funko Marvel Fabrikations figure to be a letdown after the exceptional Deadpool toy. Turns out, I actually like the second figure orders of magnitude more: the Funko Fabrikations Rocket Raccoon figure is now up for order!

All good things must come to an end–and that includes the production runs of some figures in the extensive line of Funko POP! Vinyls figures. While Funko will often keep certain POP Vinyls figures in production for several years, with the crazy number of new characters they’re producing each year, certain figures need to retire–or go out of production–forever. Well, here’s a teaser that I’d be willing to bet nobody saw coming. With San Diego Comic-Con 2014 set to begin in just another day, Hot Toys is still sending out preview images to whet collectors’ appetites. And while many of these SDCC 2014 previews have been fairly typical stuff like new Marvel Hot Toys figures and accessories, Hot Toys hit us with something really out of the blue today.
We won’t know the details until the con opens, but apparently a high-end Hot Toys SHIELD Helicarrier vehicle model is on the way!

I love Hot Toys; I love Iron Man 3. Ergo, I typically have no problem whatsoever with Hot Toys milking the Iron Man 3 license and sucking our wallets dry. That said, even I had to furrow my brow today–just a little bit–when Hot Toys announced an all-new Iron Man 3 Hot Toys Hall of Armor House Party Protocol Version diorama! You’ll be able to build your own Iron Man 3-style Hall of Armor, and the price is supposed to be affordable, but, well… the quality of this new House Party Protocol Hall of Armor definitely remains to be seen…

Though a decade ago he was a virtual unknown, the classic character Groot has risen as a fan-favorite in recent years. Last month Hot Toys released a teaser poster, giving us our first look at the Hot Toys 2014 Toy Fairs Exclusive figures–including (as expected) another Iron Man figure from Iron Man 3. I wrote about two-thirds of an article overnight discussing what I thought the exclusive was going to be and why based off of the teaser photo, but then Hot Toys had to go and spoil the whole thing by doing a full reveal the next morning. Well, I’m just full of “wrong” lately. With under a week until the beginning of San Diego Comic Con 2014, I had truly figured that Hot Toys would hold off on debuting any new Movie Masterpiece Series figures–particularly the Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy figures–so that they’d be able to premiere them at SDCC 2014. Evidently, Hot Toys figured otherwise. This is going to sound like complete and utter blasphemy coming from me, but I was sort of hoping that there wasn’t going to be a SDCC 2014 LEGO Marvel exclusive this year. The San Diego Comic Con LEGO Marvel minifigure exclusives have traditionally been both difficult and extremely expensive to acquire, so I would have been just fine with LEGO forgoing any Comic-Con exclusive LEGO Marvel sets this year.
But with a week to go until Comic-Con, they just had to go and announce an exclusive I can’t live without–it’s the SDCC 2014 LEGO Rocket Raccoon’s Warbird set exclusive!
