Funko is the king of variant figures, and over the course of the past year one of their most frequent “go to”s for variant ideas is the tried-and-true tradition of “unmasked superhero” figures! Funko unmasked Spider-Man, Iron Patriot and Iron Man as convention exclusives in 2013, and the Funko Unmasked Star-Lord POP! Vinyl figure exclusive just started shipping. I buy almost as many import anime toys as I do Marvel toys, so I’m pretty familiar with Japanese manufacturer Banpresto. In fact, they make some of my favorite static One Piece figures, including the detailed Grandline Men and Master Stars Piece lines. Banpresto is perhaps most famous, though, for their game center prize figures, including the World Collectible Figures (WCF). Usually the WCF line is reserved for anime and Japanese characters, but this fall Banpresto will bring Marvel into the WCF world–the Iron Man World Collectable Figures are now up for order!

I’ve been fiercely adamant in my stance that I was never going to pick up any of the Hasbro Marvel Super Hero Mashers figures, as I thought they were pretty much the most ludicrous thing ever the first time that I saw them.

Hot Toys announced in July 2013–close to a full year ago–that they had obtained the license to make Guardians of the Galaxy Hot Toys sixth scale figures. So it’s not exactly an unexpected development that Hot Toys has revealed their first photo of the impending Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy 1/6 line of Movie Masterpiece Series figures (what with the Guardians of the Galaxy movie hitting theaters in under two months and all). What is a twist, however, is exactly what Hot Toys has unveiled–prototypes for all five members of the Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy figures!

Harry Osborn is my favorite character in any iteration of Spider-Man, but I had my reservations about Dane DeHaan playing Harry Osborn in Amazing Spider-Man 2. As things turned out, Dane DeHaan’s performance as Harry Osborn was one of the brightest spots of that movie (not that that was all that difficult). And while I gagged at some of the illogical and irredeemable actions Harry perpetrated as the Green Goblin, I’ve been wanting a Hasbro action figure of him anyway. And in July 2014, the first Hasbro Amazing Spider-Man 2 Green Goblin figure will arrive!

I was legitimately more excited for the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie than any other movie coming out this year that doesn’t have a talking raccoon in it. A month ago, Hot Toys could have sold me pretty much anything with an Amazing Spider-Man 2 logo on it. Then I actually saw the Amazing Spider-Man 2, and I became a whole lot more selective about what I’d buy from that movie. Whatever 1/6 figures Hot Toys produced from the movie would have to be really excellent to get my attention.
