I collect a few lines of anime figures, so I’ve been watching the Tamashii Nation 2015 event with a lot of interest for those lines. What I don’t imagine anyone was expecting to see at the show, however, was the bombshell dropped by Bandai Japan: the continuation of the SH Figuarts Avengers figures line!

Considering that the grand total number of Marvel villains that Bandai Japan has produced since beginning making MCU SH Figuarts figures with “Iron Man 2” is zero, there hasn’t been a whole lot of expectations that we’d be seeing any villains from this year’s movies created in magnificent Figuarts form. But Avengers: Age of Ultron has been Bandai’s most successful Marvel line–by far, so Bandai is giving us something unexpected: an SH Figuarts Ultron figure has now been revealed!

When Bandai Japan first debuted their lineup of SH Figuarts Avengers Age of Ultron figures, there was an imposing shadow in the background that may have generated more discussion and hype than all of the figures Bandai actually showed combined. When it comes to high-end Iron Man figures, Hot Toys is the undisputed king. But not every collector has the space (or money) to collect an armada of $250+ sixth scale Iron Man figures. For those who prefer smaller and cheaper masterpieces, however, there’s another option for import Iron Man action figures: SH Figuarts. The downside is that it usually takes at least a year and a half for Bandai to release a new Iron Man armor after it appears in a movie. But this time–this time–Bandai is beating even the movie to the punch: the SH Figuarts Iron Man Mark 43 is now up for order!

After their debut at the Bandai Tamashii Nations Summer Collection 2014 event last month, many Marvel collectors have been waiting restlessly for the latest pair of Bandai S.H. Figuarts Iron Man 3 figures to go up for pre-order. Well, it took a few more weeks than many fans would like, but the day is here. As a big anime fan and anime figure collector, the annual Bandai Tamashii Nations collector events are some of my favorite occasions to look forward to. Usually I’m looking forward to these shows for news on Gundam or One Piece or Dragon Ball Z, but the last few years Bandai has also had a slight Marvel presence. For the past couple weeks, I feel like all the news has been about Captain America and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Nothing wrong with that–I love Cap and Rocket Raccoon as much as the next guy (okay, I love Rocket more than most), but I also like to see some less-merchandised, obscure characters get the spotlight. Supposedly “it’s better late than never”, but I feel like that expression is getting stretched just a little bit by the new Marvel figures just released by Bandai. While the rest of the toy companies of the world have rushed to flood the market with figures and products from the 2013 summer blockbuster “Iron Man 3” movie, Bandai is countering with two all-new figures based on “Iron Man 2”! Yeah, as in, “The Iron Man movie from 2010”. But hey, even if the figures are a little late, at least Bandai is bringing something rockin’ to the table–the S.H. Figuarts Iron Man Mark VI and War Machine figures!
