The wait is almost over, and the biggest comic book and collectibles event of 2016 is almost here: San Diego Comic-Con 2016 begins just two weeks from tomorrow! At this point, we’ve known most of the exclusive for the event for at least a week… but not all of them! Gentle Giant Ltd. had been holding their cards pretty close to their vest, but their trio of Marvel SDCC 2016 Exclusives now stands revealed: an Animated Rocket Raccoon statue, a Secret Wars Spider-Gwen Micro-Bobbles, and… some crazy-colored Deadpools including neon green Deadpool?!Continue Reading →
We may not even have the first of the Gentle Giant Marvel Collector’s Gallery 1/8 scale statues in our hands yet, but now Gentle Giant has unveiled the first of next year’s additions to the line.
And those expecting another shrunken-down version of a past release are in for a shock, because instead this is a totally-new sculpt of one of Marvel’s hottest characters: the Gentle Giant Deadpool Collector’s Gallery Statue goes up for order this week!Continue Reading →
Just when I thought that Marvel mini-busts were a dead breed, Gentle Giant pulls a Captain America out of their hat and proves that mini-busts are merely “dying” and not totally dead already! In honor of the Captain America: Civil War movie hitting theaters, Gentle Giant Ltd. is releasing a rare entry in their Marvel bust line: the Civil War Captain America bust is now up for order! But while I’m always thrilled to see a new mini bust, this one is not my favorite…Continue Reading →
Last month, Gentle Giant Ltd. revealed their fourth Skottie Young Marvel Babies statue–Spider-Gwen–and the hype generated put that of all the other statues in the Marvel Animated line to shame.
I thought there was nothing Gentle Giant could do to top their Skottie Young Spider-Gwen, but they had a major ace up their sleeves: the Skottie Young Deadpool Marvel Animated Statue is now up for order!Continue Reading →
So far, there are two clear Marvel breakout stars in 2016. One has an R-Rated major motion picture in theaters now and decades of comic book appearances. The other… has appeared in comic books for less than two years.
But what Spider-Gwen may lack in history, she makes up for in the sheer variety of merch coming out this year: the Skottie Young-styled Gentle Giant Spider-Gwen statue is now up for order!Continue Reading →
The vintage Mattel Marvel Secret Wars toy line in the 1980’s was one of the earliest–and most bizarre–comic/toy tie-ins ever. Mattel offered to produce Marvel figures–but only if Marvel published a tie-in comic. And then Mattel proceeded to produce a bunch of characters not in the Secret Wars comic at all. Cool, huh? And now we can celebrate this bit of oddball trivia once again with another character not in the original comic, as the Gentle Giant Secret Wars Daredevil Jumbo figure is now up for order!Continue Reading →
It took a few years, but the long-delayed Gentle Giant Iron Patriot Quarter-Scale statue finally arrived in collectors’ hands this fall!
But gorgeous as this light-up 1/4 Iron Patriot statue is, it’s also 19″ tall and $400, making it an item many collectors simply can’t afford (in both shelf space and dollars). But wait! If you fall into that category and still want this piece, there’s hope: the Gentle Giant Marvel Collectors Gallery 9″ Iron Patriot Statue is now up for order!Continue Reading →
Gentle Giant’s biggest smash hit Marvel release of 2014 was one of their very first Marvel quarter-scale statues: a gorgeous Scarlett Johansson Black Widow statue based on the Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie! Limited to just 600 pieces produced, aftermarket prices quickly exploded on this piece.
But for those who missed the boat with this beauty, you’ve got another chance: a 9″ version of the Black Widow statue is now available for order!Continue Reading →
Of all the news articles that I published following San Diego Comic-Con 2015, the one that most surprised me the most regarding the sheer amount of hype and excitement that it drummed up was the preview of the Gentle Giant Skottie Young Marvel Babies statues.
Gentle Giant said at the show that we’d have to wait a while to own these mini-statues–and they were telling the truth–but at least the Skottie Young Captain America statue is now up for order!Continue Reading →
Way back when I was a little tyke, the first Marvel figures that I ever owned were from the legendary Secret Wars line. Even though those figures are, uh… “not the best” by today’s standards, they’ve got a special spot in my heart.
Sadly, I don’t have the space (or hundred dollars a pop) to collect all of Gentle Giant’s Jumbo Secret Wars figures. But what I definitely can afford is the latest Gentle Giant brainchild: Secret Wars Micro Bobbles Figures are now up for order!Continue Reading →
Of all the Marvel collectibles shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, there was one unexpected surprise that delighted me more than any other. No, it isn’t more Marvel Legends or even new Hot Toys figures–it’s not even a line of traditional statues!
Nope, it’s the announcement of a line that I hope Gentle Giant goes deep into and releases dozens of characters for: mini Skottie Young Marvel Babies statues!Continue Reading →
2014 has been a mixed bag for Marvel statue collectors, as the original Marvel statue producer, Bowen Designs, exited Marvel statue production (possibly forever), while newcomers like XM Studios and Gentle Giant Ltd. entered the fray. No one was sure to expect when Gentle Giant announced their first Marvel Cinematic Universe statues in late 2013, but the Gentle Giant Captain America: The Winter Soldier Black Widow 18″ statue has now arrived, and the verdict is in: this statue is spectacular…Continue Reading →
Yesterday, Gentle Giant Ltd. unexpectedly announced a new line of 1/6th scale Jumbo Marvel Secret Wars action figures are on the way in 2015. That was a surprise announcement in and of itself, but I was even less prepared for the primarily negative response I’ve heard from collectors about the line and its price. The first figure in the line, the 12″ Jumbo Secret Wars Black Costume Spider-Man is now up for order–but is he worth 80 to 90 bucks? Here’s my thoughts…Continue Reading →
Just when I resigned myself that there wasn’t going to be much Marvel toy news to talk about before the holidays, word breaks that Gentle Giant Ltd. is launching their first-ever line of Marvel action figures! Yeah, I know–who doesn’t have a license to make Marvel figures these days, right? But these aren’t just any figures–they’re throwback jumbo 12″ figures based off of the vintage Marvel Secret Wars figures from 1984! And the first two figures coming our way will be Jumbo Black Costume Spider-Man and Hobgoblin!Continue Reading →
I genuinely thought that there was a chance I was going to get away scot-free without having to buy any of this year’s Gentle Giant San Diego Comic Con 2014 exclusives. I’m okay living without a mini bust of the Rebel Alliance’s resident butterball, Jek Porkins, and I need a two foot tall, $500 neon green, glow-in-the-dark Aliens figure even less. But then Gentle Giant had to go and do it. They had to make their Marvel exclusive something that I absolutely cannot live without.
He’s about to take the world by storm and become more popular than Spider-Man and Wolverine combined, so this exclusive is gonna be hot: the SDCC 2014 Rocket Raccoon Mini Bust has now been revealed!Continue Reading →
