It seems like everything that Hot Toys produces turns to gold, but even the best companies have a dud sometimes. I was certain the Hot Toys Iron Man 3 Busts Series 1 set was going to flop with the mini-bust market being all but dead in 2014.

For those collecting the Good Smile Company Figma Avengers like I am, the holy trinity is now complete! The Figma Thor and Iron Man Mark VII figures are arriving this summer, and they now will be officially joined by the leader of the Avengers in Fall 2014!

On the eve of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie hitting theaters, I figured it was about time I wrote a review for the most high-profile movie Electro action figure. No, it’s not a Hot Toys Electro–they haven’t announced a sixth scale Electro (yet). Nor is it a Marvel Select Electro figure, as DST didn’t have reference materials in time to create a super-detailed Electro. With the once-mighty Bowen Designs unlikely to release a single Marvel mini bust in 2014 (and maybe not ever again), superhero mini busts definitely appear to be on life support. I can be a pretty jaded toy collector these days, what with the state of the action figure aisle paling in comparison to the days of yesteryear and once-legendary franchises like Star Wars and G.I. Joe on the rocks. Thankfully, there are still some mornings that make it all worthwhile when I can wake up, turn on my phone, and have my eyes bulge out and my jaw drop past its limits. This was one of those mornings. I’ve had a tough time getting excited about the last couple series of Marvel Minimates figures revealed by Diamond Select Toys. It’s not because they’re not awesome–they are. But seeing most of the upcoming movie-based Marvel Minimates figures first-hand at New York Toy Fair 2014 in February spoiled me, and it’s hard to muster up enthusiasm when something you’ve already seen is unveiled.
Thankfully, today I got my chance to be genuinely exuberant about new Minimates for the first time in a couple months, as the previously-unnannounced Marvel Minimates Series 59 All-New X-Men wave is now up for pre-order!
